THIS CORRIE GREGORY WORK OF ART CAN BE YOURS!

ImageI’m going to give you a few updates on the store, but first… let’s talk about this work of art. Corrie Gregory is a Los Angeles based artist. I LOVE HER WORK. Here is what I love about it. It is dark-ish, fairytale-ish, jarring in a wonderfully subtle way. A lot of her stuff is influenced by illustrations from old children’s books…from the images to the color schemes. As in the piece pictured here, she often incorporates ephemera into her work (swoooon).

I am honored to say that when BOOK SHOW opens… Corrie will be the first artist to show at our store!!! She has been such an inspiration both through her work and as a person during this whole store-opening journey. I couldn’t be more excited and eager for the moment to come!!!

NOW to the good part. Corrie has graciously donated the work you see here to offer to you as an incentive to donate to the BOOK SHOW fundraising campaign.  It will be a first come first serve situation via this blog’s comment section. Minimum donation is $350 for this piece of work.  First person to comment below that they will donate $350 or more will get the piece. I will pay for shipping or drive it to you if you are local.

Here is information on the piece:

Corrie talking about her piece:

This is from a series of works included in my Show Tales From The Root Cellar. The magazine cover was rescued from the trash when my family was cleaning up things when my grandma passed away. Initially I was drawn to the colors of the cover – and then in time the text. When I was looking for the right place for the Girl with the Root drawing it all made sense.”

And now a quick kinda update on WHERE the store is going to be. The space I was considering in Silverlake did not end up working out. They seemed a bit wishy-washy, and then ended up not getting back to me at all! Not good. But everything happens for a reason, because an amazing opportunity presented itself. All I will tell you is that the new space possibility isn’t that far from Silverlake…and it is in a blossoming area with MUCH BETTER PARKING. As far as the physical space where the books, art and performance will happen…let’s just say that the kind of space BOOK SHOW might move into was a bit of a fantasy but I could not fathom how it would actually happen. And then… there it was right in front of me. I’m being vague because it isn’t official yet, so don’t want to jump the gun. But by the end of the month I will be able to do some kind of REAL announcement. Hopefully it will NOT be a “back to the drawing board” one!

Thank you for all of your continued support. Now who will get This Issue……. GO.
